FAQS
What are selectors looking for?
Selectors will consider the athlete's overall suitability for the relevant Team Australia program, including: •Technical ability and difficulty •Technique, execution and control •Musicality and timing •Performance quality and stage presence •Style and movement quality •Strength, flexibility and body lines where relevant •Consistency and repeatability •Ability to learn and adapt choreography •Coachability •Individual strengths and speciality skills •Team balance and the requirements of the relevant routine •Previous Team Australia involvement and references, where applicable You do not need to be the strongest athlete in every skill to be considered. Selection considers the overall athlete and how their skills contribute to the requirements of the team.
What commitment is required if i am selected?
Selection for Team Australia is a commitment to the full national high-performance program, not simply the competition. Athletes should be prepared to commit to: •Required Team Australia training and rehearsals •All required training camps •Choreography and preparation sessions •Required program meetings and activities •Travel associated with interstate camps •The full Orlando competition campaign •Team Australia and ICU requirements •The behaviour, safeguarding and participation expectations of the ACU High Performance Program Athletes and families are responsible for planning and budgeting for the full commitment, including travel and other costs associated with participation. Please only apply if you are confident you can commit to the full program if selected.
What if i don't have all of the requested skills?
That's okay. Try-out requirements are designed to give selectors a clear picture of your current skills and overall potential. Where a skill is listed as desired rather than mandatory, you should only perform it if you can do so safely and consistently. Selectors will consider your overall skillset, not one individual skill in isolation. Do not attempt a skill for the first time, or perform a skill you cannot safely execute, simply because it appears on the try-out list.
What commitment Is required If I am selected?
Selection for Team Australia is a commitment to the full program. Athletes must be available and committed to: - Weekly training, either self-organised or through an approved Team Australia training session. - Full attendance at all required training camps. - The full Orlando campaign, including team training, ESPN warm-up floor training, Opening Ceremony, competition and awards. Athletes should only apply if they can commit to the full training and competition program.
