The 2026 Scoring System
Australian Cheer Union is pleased to announce the official release of the 2026 Scoring System.
Across the past year, our Technical Committee has worked extensively to review and refine the existing scoring framework. Their goal: to ensure our system continues to serve the needs of the Australian Cheer & Dance community while supporting long-term growth, safety, and athlete development. This review was guided by four overarching principles:
1. Collaboration and Transparency
Grounded in the ACU Strategic Plan, accessibility remains at the heart of our decision-making. We are committed to working together as a unified community to support athletes of all ages, backgrounds, and abilities.
2. Standardisation
Consistency strengthens long-term development. The updated system continues moving toward alignment with international standards, ensuring teams are well prepared for every competition environment.
3. Long-Term Growth of the Sport
By encouraging the use of all athletes and rewarding well-rounded development, we support sustainable progression within the sport, addressing challenges such as the historical shortage of experienced upper-level basket flyers.
4. A Progressive Approach
Evidence-based, forward-thinking decisions drive fairness and safety. These updates support clubs of all sizes in building stronger, safer, and more positive training environments.

In Australia we recognise and use the IASF rules which provide a list of movements and skills allowed at each level (or dance discipline), as well as the IASF division age grids which are used for international divisions.
